The City of Montgomery today at 5 p.m. will open registration online at www.montgomeryal.gov for its 2017 Summer Jobs Program.
“Our Summer Jobs Program last year was a tremendous success,” Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange said. “Not only did it offer meaningful work experience and good pay to 56 students, but our departments benefited from having the extra help.
This year, we hope to build on our success because we’re offering even more jobs and will increase hourly wages.”
Now in its second year, the program offers job opportunities to Montgomery teenagers and young adults between 17 to 21 years old to work 20-30 hours per week for $9.73 per hour. City departments participating in the program include the Montgomery Clean City Commission, Parks & Recreation, Montgomery City-County Public Library, Finance, Montgomery Fire/Rescue, Risk Management, Street Maintenance, Planning and Sanitation. Work for participants begins June 2 and ends July 13; though, several departments extended their offers last year based on performance.
Last year, the City received more than 300 applications online, and organizers worked to ensure nearly 100 available positions this summer to meet demand. Applications will open today at 5 p.m. and are available at www.montgomeryal.gov. Registration closes March 1 at 5 p.m.
Applicants must live within the city limits and provide two letters of recommendation: one from a school official and another from a community leader regarding the applicant’s involvement in service or extracurricular activities. Once registration ends, applicants meeting the departments’ needs and criteria will be contacted for interviews.
