MONTGOMERY — The Government Finance Officers Association awarded its Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the City of Montgomery for its comprehensive annual financial report for the fiscal year ended on Sept. 30, 2015.

Led by City of Montgomery Finance Director Barry Crabb and Deputy Finance Director Betty Beville, the City’s Finance Department’s diligent efforts in preparing and publishing a comprehensive annual financial report resulted in securing what is considered by the industry the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. Its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

“We’re very proud of Barry, Betty and the entire finance team,” Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange said. “This distinction means our City organization has continued in its mission to increase transparency, expand our fiscal reserves and enhance accountability, while demonstrating a spirit of full disclosure to better serve our residents as strict stewards of tax payer dollars. The Finance Department has spent countless hours ensuring we provide the most robust reports available, all the while, working to increase our City’s overall fiscal health.”

The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals.
