It’s important for leaders to know that values are essential in dealing with groups or members of an organization; this can be a factor in the success or failure of your project.

You may ask the question, what are values? Let us first define what the term means.

Values are qualities that are considered useful; they represent your highest priorities that are usually the motivating force in completing your project.

When you are a part of an organization, you bring your values and beliefs into it.

Leaders know what they value. They also recognize the importance of ethical behavior. The best leaders exhibit both their values and their ethics in their actions. Your leadership ethics and values should be visible; you display them in your actions every day.

Several values are listed below to show leaders how they can impact your business or organization.

Ambition

Ambition can be defined as a strong desire for success of any goal through hard work and determination. Individuals with this quality trait stand out as people who constantly drive towards their goals and dreams. Ambitious individuals will always strive to achieve their goals.

Equality

Equality values in a leader ensure that individuals or groups of individuals are treated fairly and equally, even if there are family members or friends that are involved. Showing favoritism to particular persons within the group is not an option, because this will cause division within your organization.

Responsibility

As a leader, you have the responsibility or duty to your group to make sure of the proper order and procedure for the flow of the business. A leader must demonstrate that he or she can handle the responsibilities that are attached to the business or organization.

Credibility

Credible leaders are trusted and believed as people who do what they say. Credible value leaders are consistent in the words they speak and behaviors. They are not continuously shifting courses, and reversing their decisions. They are consistent, honest and trustworthy.  This is how trust is developed. They are relatively predictable.

Accountability

Being accountable simply means being responsible for decisions made, actions taken, and projects completed. We should hold others responsible for what is said as it pertains to companies, organizations or projects. Accountability is very important.

Honesty is the most essential characteristic of a leader. Honesty is the basis of every action as a result of the plan. Transparency is an effort to enforce honesty. With transparency, participation for dishonesty will be minimized.

Respect is really another word for admiration. Individual traits or qualities that make people good are items that inspire respect, for example, someone that is well spoken, well dressed, and a hard worker to get tasks completed will obtain respect. The way to get respect is to develop the traits, in yourself, that you admire in others.
Leaders know how to exhibit both their values and their ethics in their actions. Your leadership ethics and values should be visible. These traits show that you care about what you do; also what you are involved in.  Leaders should always put your best foot forward it helps to eliminate a lot of the concern that may occur within the organization or business.
