4th Annual Rosa Parks Day Celebration kicks off with Unity Breakfast

Montgomery, AL- December 1st marked the 4th Annual Rosa Parks Day Celebration in Alabama. The celebration kicked off with the Rosa Parks Unity Breakfast at Saint Paul A.M.E. Church. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Educating Not Indoctrinating”.

“This occasion is honoring the role of Rosa Parks” said Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce Senior Vice President of External and Military Affairs Sharon Rose gave as she was giving her greetings. “As a community we ought to value who we are and what we have. The boycott changed the world.

This year also marks the 66th Anniversary of the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

City Councilman Cornelius “CC” Calhoun also gave remarks. “Rosa Parks sat down so we can stand. We must continue to stand up.”

Consultant and Professional Trainer Michael Jackson was the keynote speaker. The topic of his speech was “Where do we go from here?”. Jackson challenged the audience to not become complacent, dependent, or apathetic. “We have to envision leadership as a vehicle to effect change in the community.”

Michael Jackson is also with Troy University Continuing Education and Outreach.
