Montgomery, AL– The Alabama House Democratic Caucus are planning to introduce legislation that will focus on helping Alabama families.
Representatives Laura Hall (HD19-Huntsville), Thomas Jackson (HD68-Thomasville) and Rolanda Hollis (HD58-Birmingham) announced bills that will help single parents, farmers, and survivors of childhood sexual abuse.
Rep. Hall introduced HB555, the Single Parent Support Income Tax Credit, which would allow for a single parent to receive an annual income tax credit of five thousand dollars until the child turns five years old.
Rep. Jackson will discussed the proposed Rural Connectivity and Innovation Act which would establish a state-funded grant program to expand high-speed broadband access in underserved farming communities.
Rep. Hollis will explain her support for the Light of Justice Act which would empower survivors
of childhood sexual abuse by giving them the ability to file civil claims for past abuse regardless
of how much time has elapsed.
The Light of Justice Act would also waive sovereign immunity for government entities, mandate public awareness campaigns, and protect individuals from retaliation.
“I am very passionate about this” Rep. Hollis shared.
