MONTGOMERY – C Spire, through its recent acquisition of Troy Cablevision, Inc., will expand its fiber footprint and gigabit internet services to Montgomery businesses and residents.
“C Spire’s fiber network expansion to Montgomery will complement our community’s unique IT assets while bolstering the economic development potential of our region,” Mayor Steven L. Reed said. “This world-class fiber network will be a game changer for the entire River Region.”
Last year the company announced its plan to spend an estimated $500 million in Alabama over the next three years to speed the rollout of all-fiber broadband Internet areas access through markets in Alabama. Currently, C Spire’s all-fiber network spans the Southeast, enabling business and residential services across Alabama, Mississippi, and portions of Tennessee and northwest Florida.
“Mayor Reed’s focus on increasing access to advanced technology, especially all-fiber broadband connectivity, in the City of Montgomery will ensure Montgomery’s economic growth potential remains strong,” said Ben Moncrief, C Spire’s executive vice president – Alabama. “Increasing accessible fiber deployments in the City enables consumers, businesses, schools and government agencies to cost-effectively access ultra-fast broadband services now and for decades into the future.”
“Every aspect of our community is leaning more heavily into technology and Mayor Reed’s vision to focus on this area is key to our city’s future growth,” said Leslie Sanders, Vice President of Southern Division for Alabama Power. “The technology-driven partnerships between businesses, education leaders, and community stakeholders will elevate all of Montgomery.”
Mayor Reed has appointed Octavius Jackson, business consultant with O. Maynard Jackson & Associates, LLC, to serve as the liaison for this project. Jackson has track record of strategic leadership and execution. He most recently served as the Chief Clerk for the Montgomery County Probate Court. Prior to his appointment as Chief Clerk, he worked for the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce, where he served as National Sales Manager with the responsibility of recruiting meetings, conventions and sporting events to the capital city during his four and a half year tenure.
“It is an honor and a privilege to serve the city that raised me, alongside the administration of Mayor Steven L. Reed,” Jackson said. “I am excited to work with Mayor Reed and his Administration to execute the goals for Montgomery to become a major tech center in the Southeast, providing greater access to cutting-edge technology for all citizens and businesses in the River Region, leading to a better quality of life.”
