COSA-NCADD EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR SPEAKS AT TOWN HALL RALLY

Montgomery, AL– The Council on Substance Abuse- NCADD (COSA- NCADD) Executive Director Shereda Finch was a panelist at the WVAS Town Hall Rally and Block Party on Wednesday July 13. The Town Hall Rally was sponsored by WVAS 90.7, 97.9 and That’s My Dog. WVAS did a live broadcast of their evening segment 90.7 Perspectives in front of That’s My Dog at 232 West Jeff Davis Avenue.

Hundreds of residence, community leaders, business leaders, college students, and elected officials gathered in the street at the intersection of West Jeff Davis Avenue  and E.D. Nixon Avenue.  Mayor Todd Strange, Montgomery Police Chief Earnest Finley Jr., Alabama State University Police Chief James Grayboys, and Montgomery County Sheriff Derrick Cunningham were special guests.

Finch talked about how mental health and substance abuse plagues our community. She explained how alcohol addiction is a disease that needs to be addressed. “We need to stand—and set clear expectations and guidelines on how [this] impacts us.”

Finch also talked about conservations she had with Montgomery Police Chief Earnest Finley Jr. and Montgomery County Sherriff Derrick Cunningham. In Montgomery City and County Jails alcohol and substance abuse is most often the contributing factor to why someone made a bad decision.
