We kicked off a delayed week one to the season with a lot of familiar players in a change of scenery. Most notable would be Tom Brady suiting up for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Known for his GOAT status among Quarterbacks, he is troubled with an 0-1 start as they fell to the New Orleans Saints. The defending champion Kansas City Chiefs did as expected with Mahomes throwing for three touchdown passes and rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Elaire being a bright spot in the backfield against a deflated Houston Texans team. Jamal Adams suited up in his new Seahawks threads to help pull out a win versus the Atlanta Falcons. On the other hand, the New York Jets were up to their usual business taking an opening loss in the division to the Bills.

One of the most exciting games of the day to me would be the Cincinnati Bengals taking on the Los Angeles Chargers in which the familiar face of Phillip Rivers wouldn’t be under center for the Chargers. With the quarterback position being the focal point of this game the superstar rookie Joe Burrow made his debut for the Bengals. A superstar he still proved to be on the next level as he maintained the game and gave the Bengals a chance to win late but missed a field goal and couldn’t get it done.

New England Patriots and their new quarterback Cam Newton took care of business as they ran the ball all over a sub par Miami Dolphins team. Last year’s MVP Lamar Jackson looked like this year’s early MVP as they trampled the loaded Cleveland Browns team. Ben Roethlisberger came back from an elbow injury that had him sidelined all of last year, as they took care of the New York Giants. Roethlisberger went 21/32 on his passes, while also having 229 passing yards with three passing touchdowns.

Changing positions to Wide Receiver play Deandre Hopkins and the Cardinals looked like everything they were hyped up to be as they beat a really good San Francisco 49’er team. Hopkins had a staggering fourteen catches and 151 yards, and an iconic quote “This what yall wanted to see” he stated after the game. Davante Adams and the Green Bay Packers also put on a show, Adams had a very efficient fourteen catches and 156 yards as they torched the Minnesota Vikings. This is very interesting to me because Green Bay is always a contender to win it all but always seems to get struck by the injury bug. If they can stay healthy teams better watch out.

Looking at our rookie spotlight for this week I choose Montgomery’s very own Henry Ruggs III. Ruggs looked very impressive in week one, I feel that the world got to see the blazing speed that he is known for in Montgomery first hand. Athletes like this are a dime a dozen in the NFL let alone Montgomery, I feel this goes to show that talent is all over but it really boils down to dedication and always trying to perfect your craft at all times. These are things you love to see, because you know someone doing something like that on a national stage inspires youth which is always the main objective.
