Alabama State Labor Day Classic Week

September 1, 2019 - September 8, 2019

The annual Labor Day Classic is quickly approaching. The grid iron matchup between the Tuskegee Golden Tigers and the Alabama State Hornets is one of the oldest rivalries in HBCU history bringing alumni and fans from all over to Montgomery.

ASU has a week of events planned leading up to the big game on Saturday September 7, 2019, including the Nat King Cole Jazz Festival to kick the week off; the CommUniversity Block Party; the President’s Gala; and the Labor Day Classic Concert featuring R&B Soul sensation Anthony Hamilton.

You do not want to miss out on all of the exciting activities and events. It’s going to be one to remember.

Sunday September 1, 2019:

Nat King Cole Jazz Festival
Hosted by WVAS-FM 90.7
Alabama State University celebrates the 100th birthday of Nat King Cole with a special performance by his brother, international recording artist, Freddy Cole, along with other guest artists. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy a relaxing afternoon and evening of great entertainment.

Tuesday September 3, 2019:

Hornets Day of Service
Hornet Nation volunteers share the true ‘Bama State Spirit’ with the local Salvation Army. Open to students, staff and alumni.

CommUniversity Block Party
It’s the kick-off celebration for the Labor Day Classic complete with food trucks, big games, a DJ, prizes and more! Fun for the whole family! A Community Celebration!

Inauguration of SGA President
David Whitlow, Alabama State University’s Student Government Association President will make his inaugural address to the student body and campus community.

ASU students will celebrate their new leaders in a Classic ball with swag.

Thursday September 5, 2019:

Presidential Gala: A Benefit for ASU
Featuring Howard Hewett, former lead vocalist of the Grammy-winning R&B/Soul vocal group, Shalamar. Proceeds will benefit strategic and student-focused initiatives of ASU.

*Clear Bag Policy Enforced
In order to expedite fan entry and enhance safety, ASU will be reinforcing the entry points into the Dunn-Oliver Acadome and The ASU Stadium, during the Labor Day Classic Concert and the Labor Day Classic Football Game and the Battle of the Bands. All patrons are subject to being searched by law enforcement. In addition, patrons will be directed to entrances where staffing and resources will be coordinated at the main entrance of the arena.
