Historical First Baptist Church celebrates 156th anniversary and new pastor

MONTGOMERY,AL-The historic First Baptist Church of 347 S. Ripley St., has dual purpose of celebration this year.  The church is not only celebrating its 156th anniversary but also the inaugural church anniversary celebration of its newly elected pastor, Freeman Ray, III.

Rev. Ray is excited and enthusiastic as he leads First Baptist into a new era.  He along with church leadership and the congregation are preparing for growth for the church and the community.  Efforts are underway to restructure the youth program, Sunday school, and the music department with more ministry opportunities to come.  Rev. Ray assumed the pastorate in July of 2022.

First Baptist has a steep tradition within Montgomery, the state, and the nation as a pivotal launch pad for the Civil Rights Movement and the birth of the National Baptist Convention.  With this illustrious history, the church deemed it very appropriate for Rev. Ray to be featured as the speaker, thus marking another historical event to be added to the church history.

The celebration will take place Sunday, November 27, 2022, at 10:00 am. All are invited to attend this monumental event.  It will be a celebration which will feature singing, special acknowledgements, and Rev. Ray delivering his inaugural church anniversary message.  The Church is located at 347 S. Ripley St, Montgomery, AL 36104.
