Montgomery, AL- Brian D. Smith is a man on a mission. This Alabama State University College graduate, with a heart rooted in the community, is not just managing Eastdale Mall, he’s leading a revitalization that reaches far beyond the shopping center’s walls. His vision, infused with a deep sense of community and a commitment to progress, is transforming Eastdale into a vibrant hub for shoppers, businesses, and residents alike.

Brian’s story is one of dedication and impact. His journey began with a passion for giving back to the community, evidenced by his tireless work with the BlueHeart Foundation 334, a non-profit organization that supports underprivileged families and youth. He organized countless events, from school supply giveaways to festive gatherings, injecting a spirit of generosity and unity into the heart of Eastdale. This commitment to community service caught the eye of Eastdale Mall’s leadership, who recognized in him a natural fit for the role of General Manager.

Brian’s arrival ushered in a new era for Eastdale Mall. His leadership is marked by a forward-thinking vision, a collaborative spirit, and a deep understanding of the community’s needs. “Make Eastdale Great Again” became a mantra that resonated with shoppers, businesses, and residents alike. The “Make Eastdale Great Again” campaign focuses on community needs, safety concerns, and security improvements. The goal is to create a more welcoming and trustworthy environment for shoppers and businesses.

“I remember Eastdale Mall as a child. We came here and had fun” Brian said while sharing childhood memories of the shopping mall. “It was really family oriented. And that is what I hope to bring back.”

The first initiatives of “Make Eastdale Great Again focused on creating a safer and more welcoming environment. Brian implemented a “no bag” policy, addressing concerns about shrinkage and fostering a sense of trust and security. He also spearheaded security improvements, and mandated a “no gun” policy to ensure everyone feels safe and comfortable shopping at the mall.

Brian’s vision to “Make Eastdale Great Again” is more than just managing a shopping center; it’s about building a thriving ecosystem where businesses can flourish, employees can grow, and shoppers can enjoy an elevated experience. Brian actively seeks partnerships with community organizations, educational institutions, and local businesses, fostering a sense of shared purpose and collaboration.

“We have fostered a strong partnership with Montgomery Public Schools. We also partner with local colleges and universities, particularly benefiting from marketing and business classes sharing insights with us.”

Brian’s commitment to inclusivity is evident in his approach to events. He hosts festive events for all ages throughout the year, starting with skate parties for MPS students who have conveyed academic excellence. He recently hosted a skate party for a class of first graders from Brewbaker Primary for high performance on a reading assessment. He is also planning a New Year’s event with a balloon drop.
