Hope Inspired Ministries (H.I.M.) serves chronically unemployed individuals by helping them obtain, maintain, and excel at employment. Founded in Montgomery, Alabama, in 2012, H.I.M. has experienced steady growth every year and operates today in five locations across Alabama, including Montgomery, Birmingham, Lowndes County, Bessemer, and Mt. Meigs.
Our free, nine-week, job training program takes place six times a year. In the classroom, H.I.M. students learn about soft skills, employment skills, financial literacy, behavior management, and character development. In addition to job training, we help students obtain the documentation necessary to get a job, such as a driver’s license or birth certificate. After the first six weeks in the classroom, students are then placed on an internship or job for the final three weeks of the program.
One of our Lowndes County students, Demarco Jiles, joined the program to provide a better life for his family. After graduating from high school, Demarco started working for a construction company where he worked long, hard hours for a small amount of pay. After becoming a father to two boys, he knew he needed to find a better job to support them the way a father should. After seeing the life change in his friends that successfully went through the program he knew exactly where to go to get help. He says starting the program is easy, but taking in all the lessons and trusting the process was more difficult than he imagined it would be. Nevertheless, he stuck with the program, graduated, and even got his CDL.
Demarco says, “The instructors showed me love and compassion while also teaching me patience and how to keep a relationship with God. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be in this program and to the people in the program who make a difference in our lives.”
