Montgomery, Ala. – Jackson Hospital has received 2000 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. Frontline personnel will be among the first to be offered a vaccination due to their high risk for contracting and spreading COVID-19 to other staff members and patients. Their health is critical to ensuring the continued care of the River Region community.

As vaccine supplies increase, additional staff will be offered vaccinations based on factors such as exposure rate, age, existing health conditions and other considerations that increase the risk of severe illness or death from COVID-19.

Jackson Hospital has worked in close coordination with the Alabama Hospital Association, Alabama Department of Public Health, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to plan for COVID-19 vaccination of hospital and clinic staff and is excited to begin vaccination to protect our team.

Jackson Hospital is also aiding in the recovery of COVID-19 patients using various infusion treatments. Jackson Hospital has infused several high-risk patients using COVID-19 monoclonal antibody treatments such as Bamlanivimab or Casirvimab/Imdevimab.

At this time, 96% of patients who have received these infusion treatments are recovering well at home. Jackson Hospital has established a special area to safely infuse patients in need of treatment and is currently working to expand capacity as the drug supply increases.

“We are excited about the positive results we are seeing from these treatments and they are consistent to the observations in clinical studies. We are proud to be able to offer this therapy to our patients to improve their outcomes, “ says Alanna Rufe, Pharm.D. Clinical Specialist for Infectious Disease at Jackson Hospital. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Infectious Disease and Pulmonary teams at Jackson Hospital have collaborated to bring the most current COVID-19 treatments to patients in the River Region. We salute our physicians and Jackson teams for providing outstanding care to our patients each day and night.
