This morning, The Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce hosted Downtown Update, where City of Montgomery Economic Developer Frank Robinson and his team gave an update on what is happening downtown and how it is impacting tourism. The session covered public safety initiatives, upcoming events, entertainment ordinances, Main Street Montgomery, partnerships, and retail opportunities.
Through initiatives like this Downtown Update, the Chamber continues its work to connect members with the leaders and insights that shape Montgomery’s economic vibrancy.
“We have momentum, and we are moving forward” Robinson said. “Montgomery is a catalyst for economic development for the entire region.”
Montgomery Police Chief James Graboys shared some of the safety initiatives for downtown. Safety cameras that are linked to the STAR Watch program have been installed and there is greater police presence. Chief is encouraging businesses in the area to enroll in STAR Watch.
One initiative that Chief was proud to announce was the Drone Patrol Initiative. The new drone patrol unit will help locate, identify, and arrest suspects. “I want to have a happy and healthy downtown” Chief said.
The community can look forward to several upcoming events including The Red Tails Classic, The Riverbend Brewfest, and Wine Down Wednesday. In addition, Main Street Montgomery hosts “Arts, Eats, & Beats” every 3rd Friday on Court Square.
Updates are being made to the current entertainment ordinance. Robinson shared that it will be renamed the Arts & Entertainment Ordinance.
The session concluded with a presentation from The Riddle Company and Econsult Solutions on the recently completed Downtown Retail Implementation Plan.
