Montgomery Chamber of Commerce 143rd Annual Meeting

    Gumptown Magazine (Montgomery, AL ) The Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce 143rd Annual Meeting was held December 8, 2015 at the Montgomery Performing Arts Centre. Business and community leaders gathered that evening to celebrate the economic achievements of 2015. Almost 1,000 were in attendance.

    Russell Tyner, 2015 Montgomery Chamber Board Chairman began the meeting with acknowledging the businesses and volunteers who supported the Chamber. Then he gave his review for the year. He highlighted many accomplishments and mentioned how economic development in Montgomery has progressed

    Lt. Gen. Steven L. Kwast, president of Air University at Maxwell Air Force Base was the keynote speaker. In his presentation, “Connect Your Imagination,” Kwast illustrated how Montgomery and central Alabama can become a cyber leader. He talked about how Montgomery is in a position to be the birthplace of cyber security. He also shared how Air University is changing its curriculum to bring new technology and new concepts.

    The Montgomery Fire/Rescue Department was recognized for winning back-to-back championships at the Scott World Firefighter Combat Challenge.  Local business owners were also recognized for their contributions to the community. Eugene Tinker Jr, President of Certified Technical Experts received the Point of Light Award for businesses in operations one to nine years and Clare Weil, president of C. Weil Enterprises Inc./The UPS Store received the Point of Light Award for businesses in operations 10 or more years. The Point of Light awards honor outstanding minority or female-owned businesses for their achievements and contributions to the community.

    2016 Board Chairman A. Bruce Crawford closed the meeting after Tyner passed him the gavel. Crawford is Montgomery CEO at BBVA Compass.
