MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The City of Montgomery is transforming into a winter wonderland beginning December 1 and continuing through New Year’s Eve, as dozens of free, family-friendly holiday events are being held across the region.
Montgomery Mayor Steven L. Reed will kick off the holiday festivities on Tuesday, December 5, at 6:00 p.m., at Montgomery’s Riverfront Park with Christmas on the Riverfront. The program will feature performances from local artists and children, and culminate with Mayor Reed and First Lady Tamika Reed officially lighting the city’s Christmas tree.
On Thursday, Dec. 7, from 5 to 6 p.m., Mayor Reed and the Jewish Federation of Central Alabama will host a Hanukkah Celebration & Menorah Lighting at Montgomery City Hall.
On Friday, December 8, Mayor Reed will be leading floats, marching bands, community organizations, and Santa Claus down Montgomery’s historic Dexter Avenue in the Capital City Christmas Parade. Coverage of the parade will air live on WSFA starting at 6:15 p.m.
Montgomery Mayor Steven L. Reed said about this year’s holiday season, “As Andy Rooney once famously said, ‘There is something about Christmas that requires a homecoming. It’s a time for gathering, for sharing meals and memories with those we love.’ The City of Montgomery is happy to welcome everyone home for the holidays.”
The season will come to a close on December 31 with the Downtown Countdown New Years Eve Celebration.
