MONTGOMERY — John Bowman is the new chief of operations of the Montgomery Police Department, and two new majors, Jeff Walker and R.E. Lewis, assume command of Sectors “A” and “B” following their appointments by Police Chief Ernest Finley. The promotions are effective Friday, Oct. 21.
As MPD chief of operations, Bowman will provide executive-level support for the chief and is responsible for implementing the agency’s operational missions, overseeing the work of MPD’s sectors and traffic policing.
Prior to his promotion to chief of operations, Bowman served as commander of Criminal Investigations/Special Operations. His previous assignments include serving as commander of the Patrol Division and commander of the city’s North Precinct, in addition to extensive service in CID. A lifelong Montgomery resident, Bowman joined MPD in 1994.
Walker, an 18-year veteran of MPD, has been promoted to major and will serve as commander of Sector “A,” comprising the West and North precincts. Lewis, also promoted to major and an 18-year veteran of the department, will serve as commander of Sector “B,” which includes the East and South precincts.
Finley praised the strong leadership skills of MPD’s staff and said, “I believe these appointments will strengthen and provide great benefit to the Montgomery Police Department as we work to protect and serve the capital city.”
