Math. Math. Math. It’s is everywhere you go and there is no escaping it. That is why the Montgomery Public School’s Office of Family and Community Engagement (FACE) has teamed up with Eastdale Mall to take education beyond the classroom with its second Mall Math Scavenger Hunt Family Event. The hunt is on … Saturday, August 25 from 10:00 a.m. till noon.
MPS Superintendent Ann Roy Moore loves the idea of a math scavenger hunt.
“This is a great way for parents and students to work together and for mom and dad to get more involved in their children’s education,” said Moore. “We want parents and their elementary and middle school children to come be a part of this great event.”
Parents will check in at Center Court near the ice rink to register and receive a Scavenger Hunt Clue sheet. The parent-student duo will search the mall to find answers to clues that are written in the form of math questions.
This partnership between the mall and MPS will help show parents how easy it is to become engaged parents and make shopping an educational experience. Research has shown that students who have parents that are engaged in the education of their child tend to perform better academically and exhibit positive behavior.
“This is the perfect example of how learning can take place anytime and anywhere,” added Moore. “Come on out and have a great time learning.”
The event is free and open to all MPS students and parents in grades K-8.
