Montgomery, AL- The City of Montgomery officially opened the doors to the Courtney Harman Pruitt Community Center last week.
The 5,000-square-foot facility stands as a tribute to Courtney Harman Pruitt, the late daughter of District 8 Councilman Glen Pruitt, who passed away in 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer.

The center is part of the city’s Montgomery Forward Initiative, which has already reopened community centers in Sheridan Heights, Crump, and Chisholm, and built new facilities like Fire Station 10. Funding for the Pruitt Center came from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and a Community Block Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony included remarks from Council President CC Calhoun, Councilman Pruitt, and a prayer led by Reginald Simpkins. Attendees included former Mayor Todd Strange, city councilors, community leaders, and members of the Pruitt family. Following the ceremony, guests were invited to tour the facility and enjoy refreshments in the multipurpose room.
The center is located at 5620 Calmar Dr.
