The Y.C. Nance Memorial Sports Foundation to host awards banquet

The Y.C. Nance Memorial Sports Complex is the brainchild of South Highlands Elementary School’s then principal Julius Thomas. It is named for the late Y.C. Nance, a long-time Extension Service Agent for Bullock County for his involvement in youth recreation in Bullock County and his support of the public schools. The Y.C. Nance Memorial Sports Foundation is a 501c(3) organization.

The purpose of the Achievers Awards Banquet is to recognize natives of Bullock County who have excelled in their chosen fields and/or who have made significant contributions to Bullock County and/or their community to raise funds for construction of the Y. C. Nance Memorial Sports Complex. All proceeds from the banquet will go toward construction costs.

Y.C. Nance Memorial Sports Complex Foundation in Union Springs/Bullock County Alabama will celebrate a milestone as it holds the 20^th Anniversary of the Y.C. Nance Achievers Awards Banquet on Sunday September 21, 2025. The speaker for this occasion will be the Honorable Anthony Daniels, Minority Leader of the Alabama House of Representatives. The banquet will honor persons who have made great contributions to Bullock County in the fields of humanitarianism, education, political actions, citizenship, community service, and sportsmanship. The Y.C. Nance award will also be given. The banquet is dedicated to the life of services of Mr. Y.C. Nance, a stauch supporter of youth activities in Bullock County during the 1960’s.

During the next several months, the foundation will engage in fundraising activities: a back to school bash in downtown Union Springs, Alabama on August 2^nd, 2025. Also planned are fundraising activities at Walmart on Atlanta Highway in Montgomery, Alabama and Union Springs Associated Grocers (AG). All donations are donated to South Highlands Middle School to support it’s after school and summer school programs, and the development and upkeep of the playground.
