Montgomery, AL (July 31, 2025) – After an accidental flooding that destroyed the church, Unity Worship Center has been completely remodeled and certified as the first Sensory-Inclusive church in Montgomery, AL, by national nonprofit organization KultureCity. Unity Worship Center will host a ribbon cutting for the reopening of their building and the official launch of their Sensory room on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 10:00AM CST at 2311 Oxford Drive, Montgomery, AL 36111.
KultureCity is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting inclusivity and accessibility for individuals with sensory needs. Its flagship initiative, the Sensory Inclusive™ program, provides training and resources to organizations, enabling them to better accommodate individuals with sensory sensitivities.
Unity Worship Center, led by Pastors Michael and Dr. Tammie McCurry, partnered with KultureCity to have its staff and members trained annually on sensory inclusion and to create a Sensory Room within the facility to better serve children and families who have sensory processing disorders, such as autism, Parkinson’s Disease, ADHD, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and other neurodivergent differences.KultureCity confirmed that Unity Worship Center is the first church in Montgomery to complete this certification.
“Although the flooding of our church came as quite a surprise, we knew God was going to work the incident for our good. A major part of our vision at Unity Worship Center is to be ‘intentionally inclusive,’ so we are honored to partner with KultureCity to become the first certified sensory-inclusive church in Montgomery. Our desire is to break down any and all barriers individuals or families might deal with that deter them from coming to church. We want everyone to feel welcomed, loved, and able to worship in whatever way works for them,” Pastors Michael and Tammie McCurry said.
Unity Worship Center’s Sensory Room will provide a quiet and calm environment for individuals with sensory needs to utilize during service when needed. Resources within the room include noise-cancelling headphones, weighted blankets, fidget tools, calm lighting, and a Mobile Sensory Unit.
“We can’t thank KultureCity enough for providing us with the opportunity to become the first sensory-inclusive worship center in Montgomery. We would also like to thank Pastor Terry Ellison with New Life Church of God in Christ for allowing us to use their facility during the remodeling process for our church and the Long Lewis Foundation for partnering with us on our Sensory Room,” Pastor Tammie McCurry said.
Unity Worship Center, located at 2311 Oxford Drive, Montgomery, AL, 36111, hosts a worship service on Sundays at 10:00AM CST. The first service following the reopening of the building will be Sunday, August 3, 2025. During this service, Unity Worship Center pastors will pray over students, teachers, and administrators who will be returning to school and give away school supplies and backpacks to students.
