Leadership Montgomery hosts Unity Award Breakfast

Montgomery, AL- Leadership Montgomery hosted its 2019 Unity Award Breakfast yesterday morning at the Embassy Suites Montgomery Hotel & Conference Center.

Kim Klass, award  was the keynote speaker for the morning. She shared her story of overcoming obstacles in life in order to become a beacon of hope for the community. After losing several loved ones and becoming a victim of sexual assault, Klass had battled depression for many years. Eventually, she had a personal life-changing experience while traveling that gave her hope and a reason to persevere. “Life is going to hand us challenges. It’s up to us how to handle it.”

After speaking Klass was presented with the Lantern Award. She is the first recipient of this inaugural award.

Rev. Ken Austin was the recipient of this year’s Unity Award. He is the Executive Director of the Mercy House, a ministry that provides food, clothing, and other resources to the poor and homeless. “The world will talk about Montgomery” Austin stated as he was giving his acceptance speech. “But only if we unite.”

The Leadership Montgomery Unity Award was created to recognize collaborations that build bridges, foster understanding, and enhance the River Region Community.

The mission of Leadership Montgomery is to develop and engage diverse leaders to effect positive community transformation.
