Montgomery, AL —– In keeping with tradition, the Laymen’s Fellowship of the First Congregational Church, located at 638 High Street, Montgomery, AL 36104, will sponsor its Annual Black History Month Program on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at 3:00 p.m.
Dr. Quinton T. Ross, the 15th president of Alabama State University, will be the keynote speaker for this year’s program. A Mobile native, Dr. Ross was elected to serve four terms in the Alabama State Senate representing the Montgomery area and served as an UniServ Manager with the Alabama Education Association before being named Alabama State University’s president. He also served as Principal of the Booker T. Washington Magnet High School in Montgomery and the Director of the Adult Education Consortium at H. Trenholm State Technical College.
Dr. Ross received a B.S. in Political Science, an M.A. in Education, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Alabama State University. He was also named to the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities Board of Advisors, the HBCU Capital Financing Advisory Board, and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund Board of Directors, receiving their 2023 Educator of the Year Award. Dr. Ross has served as Chairman of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Commission, as a member of the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools, and the National Association of Secondary School Principals. He is a member of Hutchinson Missionary Baptist Church, 100 Black Men of America, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated. Dr. Ross is married to J. Kelley, and they have two children, Quinmari and Quinton.
The 2025 Theme for this year’s Black History Month program is Celebrating the Legacy of HBCU’s in Alabama. The program will honor all Alabama HBCU Presidents and will feature the Tuskegee University Choir. The Laymen will also present a special brotherhood award in honor of former member, the late Cecil St. Clair.
