Montgomery, Alabama Tax Preparer Sentenced for Including False Information on Federal Tax Returns

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Today the United States Attorney’s Office announced the sentencing of a Cape Coral, Florida woman for making false tax returns and assisting in the filing of false tax returns. On January 29, 2025, a federal judge sentenced 50-year-old Cynthia Lee Price to 24 months in prison. Following her prison sentence, Price will be on supervised release for one year. Federal inmates are not eligible for parole.

According to her plea agreement and other court records, from 2017 through 2022, Price prepared federal income tax returns for others at No Limit Tax Pro in Montgomery, Alabama. In her plea agreement, Price admitted that she included false information in numerous tax returns filed on behalf of herself and others. Doing so caused Price and some of her clients to receive greater refunds than they were entitled to receive.

In one example, Price reported a total income of $14,995 in her 2021 tax return. Price knew that this amount was false because it did not include the fees she received for preparing tax returns for clients at No Limit Tax Pro. The false reporting of Price’s income for 2021 resulted in a lower amount of tax due and an underpayment to the IRS. Price also admitted that she filed a 2019 return for a client claiming charitable contributions in the amount of $55,544 that were never actually made. Again, the false information provided by Price caused a greater refund than the client was  entitled to receive. In her plea agreement, Price further admitted that the multiple false returns she filed for herself and others during the 2017 – 2021 tax years caused a total loss of $532,199.93 to the IRS. In addition to the prison sentence, the federal judge ordered Price to pay a $15,000 fine and restitution to the IRS.
