Montgomery, AL-– The Young Professionals Council hosted their first Silent Auction Fundraiser to raise funds for the Boys and Girls Club of the River Region. The YP Council is a group of young professionals who assist the main executive board with the daily operations of the Boys and Girls Club. Members of the YP Council are able to participate in hands-on activities within the Boys and Girls Club, as well as train to possibly become members of the main executive board.

The YP Council desired to develop a strategy to inform people in the community about the B&GC and get them to donate to this program. After group deliberation, the YP Council decided to establish an annual fundraiser known as the “Silent Auction”. Dr. SoJuan Crenshaw, President of the YP Council, wanted this event to serve as an informational session as well as a fundraiser. Members of the YP Council wore “Ask About B&GC” pins to prompt attendees to inquire about the organization. The artistic pieces that were auctioned off were all original works from the youth of the B&GC. In YMCA in the River Region submitted pieces from the youth at that location. The event was held at ServisFirst Bank in Montgomery, Alabama.

The Silent Auction was a huge success. After reaching out to members of the community through social media, mail, and word of mouth, hundreds of people showed up and participated in this event. Not only were the youth able to showcase their artistic abilities, but the YP Council was able to almost double their fundraising goal of $1000.

According to Crenshaw, the YP Council hopes to expand and reach a larger base of people for next year’s fundraiser. The council will also adjust the scheduled day and time of the fundraiser.
