Lowndes County, AL- The Lowndes County Friends of Civil Rights Movement announces the events for the 2020 Civil Rights Celebration Weekend, Friday, April 24 — Sunday, April 26, 2020. FRIDAY, APRIL 24, 2020 at 7PM – Old Fashioned Mass Meeting, Wrights Chapel AME Church, 2093 U.S. 80, Lowndesboro, AL 36752, Guest Speaker: Dr. Bernard Lafayette, Jr., Civil Rights Activist & Organizer. **Dr. Lafayette’s appearance is sponsored by the National Park Service.
SATURDAY, APRIL 25, 2020 at 9AM—1PM – Guided Tours of the Historic Civil Rights Sites of Lowndes County, Start/Return: Lowndes County Courthouse, 1 S. Washington St, Hayneville, AL 36040 *Arrive at 8:45 to board bus.
Sites: Courthouse, Jonathan Daniels (Cash’s Store & Memorial), Old Jail, First Baptist Church, Hayneville, The Calhoun School, Ramah Church, Macedonia Church & Hopewell Church @ Snow Hill Christian Church.
