Clayton, AL- The City of Clayton celebrated the groundbreaking of a New Regional Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Facility last month. The state-of-the-art facility is a significant advancement in emergency medical services in the city. With a budget allocation of $230,000.00 coming from the American Rescue Plan Act , this cutting-edge facility represents a monumental step forward in enhancing emergency medical care for Clayton and the surrounding areas.

Mayor Kathy Thomas is thrilled about the new emergency facility. “I have a vision for this city. To execute that vision, you must have passion. You must be passionate about helping your community and helping people find purpose.”

The regional EMS facility is expected to have a significant impact both locally and regionally. It will be equipped to house emergency medical technicians (EMTs) so they can work overnight. There will be beds, a kitchen area, and training rooms. This will result in quicker response time for ambulance services and 24-hour access to emergency and medical assistance on-site.

EMS Director Paul Gulledge, Sr., is looking forward to seeing the positive impact of the new building and how it can lead to more jobs. “We no longer have got to work out of a small building. It is my hope that the new building will attract new EMTs to apply.”

Barbour County Superintendent Keith Stewart says the new EMS facility will be beneficial to the school system. “This is great for our student-athletes in the event they are injured at a game or practice.”

The New Regional EMS Facility is poised to serve as a key partner in emergency medical response, equipped with the latest technology and resources to ensure that first responders can deliver unparalleled care when every second counts. This initiative underscores Clayton’s pioneering role in safeguarding the health of residents.

“We look forward to actually saving the lives of people in Barbour County” shared City Councilwoman Brittany O’Hare- Grant, District 5. “The new facility will provide 24-hour access to emergency care for the city and county. Now we can offer ambulance services to the entire region.”

“This new regional EMS facility is the city’s first step to progress, and I am excited to witness such. said City Councilman Alex Moses, Mayor Pro-Tem, District 4 . “The nearest hospital is 20 miles away. We want to take care of our community, especially in emergency situations.

This project would not be possible without the unwavering support and cooperation from state dignitaries, elected officials, community leaders, and stakeholders.

Other elected officials and dignitaries in attendance were Councilman Richard Pearison, State Senator Billy Beasley, State Representative Berry Forte, Barbour County Commissioner Rachel Smith, Barbour County School Board President Jean Kennedy, and Morgan Robinson, Director of Outreach and Public Affairs for U.S. Congressman Shomari Figures.
