Montgomery County, Ala. – District Attorney Daryl Bailey announced today that arrests warrants have been issued in connection to a cold case homicide of a Montgomery teen.

Ashley Williams and Lavonte Frazier have been charged with murder for the January 24, 2019, death of Jaylan Saunders. Saunders, who was 16 when he was killed, was hit multiple times by gunfire as he slept in his bed. Numerous witnesses and ballistic evidence (NIBIN) were utilized to develop suspects Williams and Frazier as being the individuals responsible for Saunders’ death.

This case was adopted by Montgomery’s Cold Case Unit and through the collective efforts of its members from the Montgomery District Attorney’s Office, Montgomery Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, along with assistance from Prattville Police Department, warrants were signed and arrests were made by Lead Agent, DA’s Investigator Antony Shannon.

District Attorney Daryl Bailey said: “It is particularly devastating when we lose one of our youth to a senseless act of violence. It robs them of the opportunity to realize their dreams and for their families to celebrate who they would become. I am very proud of the work of the investigators in the Cold Case Unit and thankful for the Montgomery County Commission for supporting this important endeavor. Because of this collaborative unit and their hard work, Jaylan Saunders’ loved ones will now be able to seek justice.”

The Montgomery County Cold Case Task Force is a collaboration between the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Montgomery Police Department. Formed in 2019, the Task Force is charged with revisiting investigations that have stalled, developing new leads and ultimately solving cold case murders.
