Montgomery, Alabama– Leadership Montgomery is an organization that connects leaders to the community and recognizes leadership efforts to evoke change within the community. After three years of dormancy, the Unity Breakfast Committee of Leadership Montgomery will be bringing back its annual Unity Award Breakfast.

According to the Unity Breakfast Chair Jannah Bailey, the executive committee of Leadership Montgomery decided to resurrect the Unity Award Breakfast after removing it from the annual calendar of events three years ago. Bailey says that the purpose of this breakfast is to recognize the founding members of Leadership Montgomery, acknowledge the board of directors, and present the Unity Award to a person, or group of people, that has gone above and beyond their duties to resolve issues in the community.

All applicants for this award were nominated by alumni of the Leadership Montgomery program. The nominees were then scored by an unbiased committee, and the recipient, or group of recipients, will be announced at the award breakfast.

The guest speaker for the event will be Peggy Wallace Kennedy, eldest daughter of former governor of Alabama George Wallace. Kennedy is highly admired for her platform promoting peace and unity in the community. She will speak about her experience as the governor’s daughter and coming out from her father’s shadow to become her own person. After hearing from the keynote speaker, the Unity Award will be presented to the recipient(s).

The premier sponsor for the Unity Award Breakfast is Stivers Ford. The event is also being funded through smaller sponsorships and ticket sales. The event is open to the public and will take place on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at the Embassy Suites Hotel on Tallapoosa Street. Tickets are $22 for active members and $25 for non-members and guests.
