Tuskegee, AL – What began with sharing a social media article about food insecurities morphed into a service day benefiting local Macon County Residents. On Saturday, August 8, 2020, Tuskegee Mayoral Candidate, Jamelle McDade will collaborate with several non-profits for a “Service in the Square” in the Tuskegee Square.

The day will begin at 8:00 a.m. with a second outdoor yoga session featuring More Yoga to allow residents to start the day exercising. During the yoga session, volunteers will also clean up the Pocket Park inside of the heart of the Tuskegee Square and prepare the area for art murals and park benches.

Beginning at 9:00 a.m., volunteers will also work with the Jackson’s Helping Hands Foundation, a Non-Profit organization based in Montgomery, AL to prepare and distribute 500 free meals to local residents. “We are hoping that our local churches, organizations and residents will share this opportunity with others throughout Macon
County. With COVID-19 and food insecurities still an issue in Macon County, it is a blessing that a local organization is willing to donate their time and money to ensure that our Macon County residents receive at least one nutritious meal.” says Tuskegee Mayoral Candidate and community advocate, Jamelle McDade.

Jackson’s Helping Hands Foundation was founded in 2015 and is known for collaborating with local restaurants throughout the River Region to prepare and serve meals to residents in need. The event on August 8th will be the first time that the Jackson’s Helping Hands Foundation has provided services in the Macon County area. Residents can begin picking up their meals at 11:00 a.m. and the organization will remain at the location until all meals have been dispersed. Local residents can receive free masks and information regarding the Coronavirus, register to vote and complete the 2020 Census throughout the day.
