MONTGOMERY – Mayor Steven L. Reed has named former Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base Vice Wing Commander Jerime Reid as Chief Operating Officer for the City of Montgomery, effective March 27, 2023.

Reid brings vast senior executive leadership experience in the United States Air Force to this role. His service in the Air Force includes time as Director of Personnel at Air Mobility Command at Scott Air Force Base and Director of Operations for HQ Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps. He is a graduate of the Air War College, the University of Texas, and Air Command and Staff College. He earned a master’s degree from the University of South Carolina.

“Jerime will identify ways to cut red tape and navigate bureaucracy to create departmental operating strategies that will enhance the level of service we offer our residents,” Mayor Reed said. “He will help foster a more responsive, efficient and effective city government by using data to drive decision making and performance improvement.”

In this senior cabinet position, Reid will utilize data to set comprehensive goals for performance and departmental growth in city departments– resulting in better service to residents. He will also devise strategies to preserve resources through new, innovative technology and management solutions.

Over the past decade, the COO role has been a best practice that yields impactful results for many larger cities. It is a strategy now being incorporated by cities of all sizes — especially as government leaders seek to drive better and more equitable outcomes for communities.

“Joining the City of Montgomery team as Chief Operating Officer is an incredible honor, and I am excited to work with Mayor Reed, his administration, fellow veterans on his senior staff and shared stakeholders of the River Region to deliver innovative solutions and improve the daily lives of our residents,” said Reid. “It is amazing what this administration has accomplished in the past four years, and I am ready to continue helping deliver for the Montgomery community.”

Under the leadership of Mayor Reed, the City of Montgomery’s department structure has been reorganized to ensure swift response to citizens’ needs and concerns. Processes have become more efficient and saved myriad taxpayer dollars.
