Montgomery, AL– Mayor Steven Reed announced Darryl Albert as Montgomery’s new Police Chief.
“He is a proponent of 21st Century policing and promoting crime reduction strategies…” Mayor Reed stated. “We are glad the search is now complete.”
Commander Albert brings more than 30 years of experience in law enforcement and most recently served as Commander of the Special Operations Division for the New Orleans Police Department.
During his tenure in New Orleans, he held several key leadership positions, including Deputy Chief of Field Operations, the largest Bureau within New Orleans Police Department, Commander of NOPD Crime laboratory, and commander of criminal investigations division for homicide. Commander Albert twice served as Deputy Superintendent for two different administrations.
Commander Albert led units that slashed New Orleans’ murder rate while significantly reducing instances of violent crime. He proved instrumental in leading city-wide preparation, deployment and recovery efforts amid Hurricane Katrina as well as other storm and emergency events.
“I will be hard on crime, and kind to community” Albert said. “We will make Montgomery a better city to live, work, and play.”
One of Commander Albert’s initiatives as police chief is to build public trust. He says that this can be achieved through transparency and allowing the community a seat at the table. Along with building public trust, Commander Albert plans to increase moral within the Montgomery Police Department.
Commander Albert earned a master’s degree in the study of Criminal Justice from Southern University at New Orleans and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice Management from Concordia University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.Â
He is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, Internal Association of Chiefs of Police, and the Police Executive Research Forum.
