Millbrook, AL- The City of Millbrook is pleased to announce the hire of Danae Morgan as the City’s first Cultural Arts – Special Events Director.  A new position for the City, the Cultural Arts-Special Events Director will be responsible for the development and implementation of a variety of public arts and cultural programming, as well as other special events throughout the year.  This will be accomplished by fostering partnerships with community groups, nonprofits, schools, businesses, foundations, and cultural organizations.

Mayor Kelley stated, “we are pleased to add Danae to our staff to not only take our existing events to another level but introduce new programming that will involve art, music, festivals, performances and so much more.  We want to bring people together and enhance that quality-of-life aspect our citizens want and enjoy.  As we continue to work on developing our downtown area for economic benefit, cultural arts and special events will become a key factor in our success.”

Brenda Dennis, Executive Director of the Millbrook Area Chamber of Commerce added, “having a Cultural Arts-Special Events Director is like giving a vitamin shot to a city’s overall economic health.  Millbrook is going to stand out that much more as a place people will want to live, work and visit.”

Danae Morgan is a lifelong lover of the arts and is thrilled to be bringing her decades of experience in creating cultural opportunities and new events to Millbrook as the Cultural Arts – Special Events Director.  Danae has over 23 years of Arts Administration experience gained through her tenure with the City of Montgomery’s Cultural Affairs and Parks & Recreation Departments. Most recently, she served as Montgomery’s Cultural Arts Director. In this role, she also served as the Executive Director of The Arts Council of Montgomery and Director of The Armory Learning Arts Center. In her time with the City of Montgomery, she spearheaded many exciting new Arts initiatives, but is proudest of her work supporting individual artists and offering a wide variety of community arts events and classes.

A native Floridian, Danae grew up in the small town of Pace, Florida. After living in Germany and traveling Europe in her early twenties, Danae returned to the South, where she graduated from Troy University, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management.

In 1990, she moved to Millbrook, where she has raised her two children while lovingly restoring their historic home. As a firm believer that the Arts bring people together and have a positive impact on a community, Danae can’t wait to dive in and create new events, opportunities, and cultural experiences for people of all ages in her adopted hometown of Millbrook.

“I eagerly embrace the opportunity to work alongside local city leaders, educators, and the community to establish a department that will enrich the lives of our citizens. As Millbrook continues to grow, I look forward to developing well-rounded arts and entertainment events that reflect our thriving community.”

Danae’s office will be located in the Millbrook Economic Development Center with the City’s Economic Development Department and the Millbrook Area Chamber of Commerce offices.
