MONTGOMERY- Lately, the nation has been filled with agony and sorrow. We are currently living in a world filled with racism, hate, crime and police brutalities based upon recent events that have transpired. It seems as though the years have trickled back to the mid 1900’s, when racism and police brutality was at its peak. Fear and uneasiness has filled the beings of people across the nation. Americans have been forced to put aside the concentration of positivity taking place and focus more on the negativity that has taken over the forefront. However, what a lot of adults overlook is the fact that YOUTH ARE WATCHING! They watch the media, the adverse reactions of their guardians and even the negative responses of their celebrity role models. Youth are our future and what they absorb now, will be what they exert later. We are asking you to redirect your thought process briefly. With all of the negative accolades being given in the media lately, take a moment to highlight academics, achievement and community service among a wonderful group of young men.
The Guide Right Program is a program that focuses on leadership and development among young men. The Montgomery Kappa League is an entity of the Guide Program and the focus for this letter. The Montgomery Kappa League has 30 young men that have done tremendous works in the community. They have gathered over 576 hours of community service and countless hours of helping individuals in need in this year alone. These young men give back to the community in so many ways. Some of those ways include: adopting families, assisting at the nursing home, executing community clean-up projects, donating to the less fortunate, supplying impoverished communities with food and the list continues. These young men have stood out with their efforts and defied the odds of their peers statistically. Their overall appearance and their demeanor alone speak volumes of their character and self-worth. The media has a habit of focusing on the negative actions of young men, when the public needs to see respectable young people being praised for their positive efforts.
So, we are asking you to focus on the positive accomplishments of these young men for a moment. Focus your attention on the fact that these young men would rather help the less fortunate verses committing crimes; they would rather dress professionally and not sag their pants; they would rather go to college verses becoming a drop-out. Please don’t let the negativity, overshadow the positivity that’s going on around you. Please assist in uplifting these young men by appreciating their positive efforts through recognition and/or by making a generous donation to their fund.
