Montgomery kicks off small and minority business initiative

The City of Montgomery hosted the Small & Minority Business Initiative Symposium on May 14 from 9 a.m. to noon at City Auditorium in City Hall downtown. The symposium was the kick-off for the City’s new initiative to increase the number of small and minority-owned local businesses awarded local government contracts.

“We want to expand opportunity this morning” Judge Price proclaimed to the audience of zealous business owners. He later expounded on the City’s goal to increase small and minority participation in city business 30%.

Department Heads discussed protocol and procedures for how to best secure City/county contracts. “We want to increase the volume of work businesses can do for the city” said Steve Jones, Director of the Department of General Services. This department offers contracts in fleet management and building maintenance.

The date for the next symposium is yet to be determined.
