A Lifetime of Caring: Resurrection Catholic Missions of the South, Inc. Celebrates 75 Years

South, Inc.

This year, as Resurrection Catholic Missions of the South, Inc. celebrates 75 years of service to the people of Alabama, the Southeast, and the United States, we are proud of the work we’ve done and the indelible mark we’ve made on the hearts of countless parishioners, students, patients, and laity for nearly a century.

From what started as work initially focused on the Black communities of North and Central Montgomery done by the Resurrectionist Fathers and Brothers in the 1940s to what has since blossomed into thriving evangelization, social service, health care, and educational programs, Resurrection has remained an unwavering source of faith, care, and support.

So much of our rich history is anchored not only in the tenets of faith and God’s Providence, but also in the actions and dedication of Resurrection’s staff members and supporters – past and present. Be it the residents of the surrounding neighborhoods giving their time to maintain our facilities or the efforts and progressive thinking of clergy like Father Walter Mikosz, C.R., Resurrection might not have weathered the early years and decades to allow us to see the new millennium had it not been for the hard work and tireless efforts of those who saw the future of our Missions.

From our initial site on the banks of the Alabama River to a sizeable complex that today consists of our Pre-K through 8th school, church, our residential Villa, rectory, and administration center, we are so blessed to have come so far, and it is by God’s grace that we have sustained and survived.

Our partnerships with other local nonprofits have allowed us to honor, support, and advocate for some of the nation’s most marginalized citizens while sharing our ministries and our mission with generations of individuals. Whether hosting social justice focused events featuring guests from Faith In Action Alabama, the Equal Justice Initiative, or the Southern Poverty Law Center to working with community partners like the Salvation Army and The Wellness Coalition, Resurrection Catholic Missions of the South, Inc. continues to carry on the work established all those years ago while passing on goodwill and kindness in the process.

As we look ahead to the next 75 years and beyond, Resurrection Catholic Missions of the South, Inc. invites you to join us as we remain devoted to offering our campus and our resources to those who need them most. While 75 years is certainly worth celebrating, our focus remains working towards – as our motto states – a lifetime of caring.
