MONTGOMERY, AL- Local basketball fans have something new to look forward to this fall. The River Region Generals Semi-Pro Men’s Basketball Team will host their first home game in Montgomery this November. Team Owner Syreeta Duncan Bailey is excited about bringing something new and positive to the city.
“Adding basketball will bring another form of entertainment to the city” Bailey said. “I am looking forward to bringing a more positive community involvement to Montgomery. Our goal is to have our athletes interact and engage with the community.”
The River Region Generals are a new extension of the American Basketball Association (ABA). The team joined the league earlier this year and will play in the Southeast Region. There are over 30 teams in this division which includes Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi, and Florida.
Tryouts for the team have been held at Bellingrath Community Center. Bailey says that the guys have been conditioning and working hard. “Our first game is November 21st, the weekend after Thanksgiving. It’s gonna be very impressive to see all of those who made it playing on the court.”
Bailey is a Montgomery native and graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. She is currently employed with Success Unlimited Academy, a local private school; where she is a volleyball and softball coach, teacher’s aide, and athletic administrative assistant. Bailey is also happily married with two children.
