Montgomery, AL- Aaron Washington is a graduating senior at Huntingdon College. His major is Sports Management and he played on the Men’s Basketball Team. Washington was looking forward to graduation. He had great plans of celebrating this special moment with friends and family. The COVID-19 pandemic changed all of those plans. Mr. Washington shares how the coronavirus has affected him as a graduating college senior.

“Growing up, one of the major things that my parents preached was graduate from college so that you can be on the grand stage and tell everyone you did it. I have attended Huntingdon college for 4 years now and will be graduating this spring. I was looking forward to walking across the stage and seeing all of my family there to see my accomplishment. Now that we have the Coronavirus the option of finally getting to rest without basketball and hang out with friends instead is gone.”

“We got everything taken away from us in a blink of and eye we have no graduation and we are no longer able to be with our friends. As an African American male I take walking across the stage as a big deal because it took a lot to get where I am from, my family and I. I always remember that everything happens for a reason because God makes no mistakes, but it does affect how that I was really looking forward to walking across the stage making my family proud.”

Washington is a native of Birmingham, AL. His favorite scripture is Isaiah 54:17- “No weapon formed against me shall prosper”.
