Usually the city of Montgomery would be buzzing around this time of year with college football kicking off. But, with the eruption of Covid-19 the city is going through things it has yet to be seen in its history. When exploring more on this I caught up with a long time resident and Head Football coach at Huntingdon College Mike Turk.

Huntingdon College is located here in Montgomery and is a part of the USA South Conference. Huntingdon College is coming off a conference championship in last year’s campaign, and “spent all summer getting ready to repeat” Turk said.  In early August the USA South postponed all Fall sports to the Spring semester. Which could be looked at as the biggest change to the Huntingdon College football team. When speaking with Coach Turk I asked what other changes they were dealing with, laughingly he stated “Everything. From practice, meetings, even the classes here on campus. Most importantly we can’t all be together to get those important team bonding moments that every good team needs.”

Although an official schedule has yet to be publicized, Coach Turk is sure that the Hawks will be in action in the Spring semester. A month of practice will be given to each team and a season will be put in place.

When asking about some things that would protect the players on the field, he stated that they have ordered masks that fit into the facemask of each player’s helmet. This new apparatus “can’t hurt” Turk said. As well as these new mask players that aren’t playing and everyone that’s not in the game will be required to wear a mask as well.
